BBC article on Abby's death

Has anyone got any good ideas of what we can do to raise awareness and get traffic to slow down? Please comment. We really want to get something going to stop this happening again.

  • How about getting in touch with the council to see about traffic calming measures, i.e speed hump, cameras etc?

Let me know if theres anything I can do.

  • I don't really know what the road is like but is it possible for "chokers" to be put in at strategic distances from the lights? They may be slightly annoying from a drivers point of view but are quite effective at slowing traffic; they wouldn't work with multi-laned traffic though (they're the ones where 1 lane gets right of way at a narrowing of 2 lanes into 1).
Other than that, I think cameras are another of the bigger deterrents.

It annoys me to think that some people have no concern for others when they are in control of such a machine.

  • There are these speed cameras, one is installed in Brighton, that catches car reg plates that jump through lights or that try to sneak through ambers and such. As I presume the road is probably still quite residential, perhaps one of these would fit better then major road works stemming traffic flow.

These work better then speed cameras as they will stop people jumping red lights, and you can't do the usual speed speed speed then slow for the camera as it is souly designed to stop light jumpers.

Write the Council and tell them it's the least they could do. If necessary write to the Newspaper and ask them to investigate what the Council is doing in the light of the tradgedy and that should prompt action.

    All the best.
